The training

Objectives

Training in forestry and timber harvesting
Providing a scientific background: ecosystem dynamics, tree biology and physiology, forest botany
Develop technical and economic knowledge for carrying out forestry work
Integrate the principles of sustainable forest management and sustainable development
Learning to respond to an order and organise a forestry site: analysis of the specifications, map reading, choice of felling techniques, estimation of necessary resources, preparation of quotes
Training in forestry techniques: felling, skidding, timber processing
Mastering the use of forestry machinery and tools
Acquire skills in tree planting and forest regeneration: natural regeneration, sowing, selection of stems to keep or remove, forest stand operations

Rhythm

Work-based training placements lasting between 18 and 22 weeks, spread over the three years of the course:

Second year: 6 weeks
First time: 8 weeks
Final year: 6 weeks

Training site:

Second year: 10 days of field trips throughout the year
First one: 1 worksite per week and 8 days of field trips over the year
Final year: 2 work placements per week and 8 days of fieldwork over the course of the year

Group work placement «Health and sustainable development»: 1 week in Year 12

Combination of theoretical lectures, practical case studies and applications
Situated in the heart of the Mormal region, the largest forest massif north of Paris
Forest-based school work camps organised in collaboration with professionals from the forestry sector (the General Council, the ONF, the Regional Nature Park, forestry operators, etc.)

This three-year course leads to a vocational qualification in the forestry sector. In addition to the traditional areas of land-use planning and timber production, the sector is expanding into environmental protection.

It enables students to enter the world of work directly in the following occupations:

Logging operator
Forestry machinery operator
Forestry worker
Employee of the NFA or a private forestry company
Site manager
Nature reserve, park and garden technician
Forestry company employee

Target audience

This vocational baccalaureate is taken in 3 years after the Year 9 class. Pupils enter the second year of the agricultural vocational track in nature-garden-landscape-forestry to prepare for this vocational baccalaureate specialisation.

Access conditions

Pre-enrolment is available from November, by appointment or during the Open Days.

Continuous assessment and final exams after the three-year training period
Work placement periods are the subject of a portfolio, which the pupil must present as part of the exam
