The training

State Diploma of Level 3, issued by the Ministry of National Education and Youth. Registered in the RNCP on 22-01-2024, under the number 38565.
Objectives

The apprentice carries out the tasks assigned to them based on instructions given by the organisation and under the supervision of a mentor.

The apprentice trains in private or public early childhood settings.

  • Meeting the child's needs
  • To provide comfort care
  • Planning and leading activities for children
  • Contribute to the child's development and support them in their socialisation
  • Ensure the maintenance and hygiene of a child's various living spaces (at home and in a childcare facility)

GENERAL EDUCATION MODULES (available only on the two-year apprenticeship programme)

  • French
  • Mathematics
  • History Geography

TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL TEACHING MODULES:

  • UP1: Supporting the development of the young child
  • UP2: Working in a childcare setting
  • UP3: Working on a one-to-one basis

As a state-recognised qualification, this CAP enables candidates to undertake training that is both general and technical. In the world of work, the CAP in Early Years Care enables holders to:

  • Welcoming children, carrying out personal hygiene routines and ensuring meals are eaten safely
  • Childhood education and development
  • Maintenance and hygiene of the premises
  • Parenting support
  • Teaching support for teaching staff
  • Communication and teamwork

One-year apprenticeship

  • The CAP AEPE course lasts one year (approximately 430 hours), running from mid-September to June, in accordance with a timetable provided by the centre
  • Work-study programme: 8 hours at the vocational training centre (CFA) and the rest of the week in the workplace, on a 35-hour-per-week basis (2.5 days’ accrued paid leave per month), with one regular training day depending on the schedule

Two-year apprenticeship

  • The CAP AEPE course takes two years (approximately 800 hours) to complete, running from September to June, in accordance with a timetable provided by the centre
  • It is also possible to prepare for the CAP AEPE in one year, subject to certain criteria
  • Work-study programme: 2 days at the vocational training centre and 19 hours in the workplace, based on a 35-hour week
  • Technical stations with baby care equipment
  • Digital equipment for each learner
  • Group work, active, inductive and deductive teaching methods, themed projects, problem-based learning
  • Professional practices at the training centre
  • Company visits, trade fairs...
  • External professional interventions (Sign language, babywearing, children's literature…)
  • Personalised career guidance support
  • Monitoring the apprentice’s activities using the apprenticeship record book, half-yearly reviews and workplace visits

After obtaining the CAP AEPE qualification, graduates can enter the workforce directly in a wide range of public or private organisations working in early childhood education, utilising the skills they have acquired, such as:

  • recreational and developmental activities
  • daily care activities
  • activities relating to collaboration

Examples of childcare facilities: crèche, micro-crèche, nursery school, ACM (group childcare for children aged 0–6), MAM (childminder centre)

APPRENTICESHIP (1 year)

For 12 months: £8,100

(The training is funded by the OPCOs and the CFA. The apprentice and the company therefore have no costs to cover.)

  • Anyone wishing to work and communicate with children
  • To be aged 16 to 29 inclusive
  • Young people under 15 who have completed the first cycle of secondary education (end of 3rd) can begin performing an apprenticeship contract as soon as they have reached the age of 15 and one day
  • No age limit for people with RQTH status
  • Mastering the basics (speaking, reading, writing and counting in French)
  • To have a BEP, CAP, degree or equivalent in any field

10 to 20 participants

  • One-to-one interview and placement test
  • Access time: Interview within the month following contact and acceptance upon signing the contract

Final exams

  • Premises: Fire safety regulations for public buildings (ERP) – Premises accessible to people with reduced mobility
  • Possible academic guidance and adaptation, mentored by a disability officer
