The training

Level 3 State Diploma, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty. Registered in the RNCP under number 38388.

Objectives

The holder of the CAP Farrier certificate masters the techniques for manufacturing and fitting shoes and provides emergency first aid for horses' hooves according to the following professional objectives:

Understand the anatomy, behaviour and physiological functioning of equines
Practise forging, shoeing and trimming techniques
Identify the needs and resources to run a farriery business
Perform the orthosis fitting using the bonding technique

Programme

Farriery techniques: tool knowledge, forging techniques, trimming and shoeing, foot care.
Horse anatomy and physiology: hoof structure, biomechanics, common pathologies.
Materials and irons: types of irons and their uses, maintenance of irons.
Farrier business management.
Behaviour and physiology of the horse.
Application of orthoses using the bonding technique.

Rhythm

Training centre: 480 hours
Sandwich course schedule: approximately 2 days at the training centre and 3 days in the company / riding school

APPRENTICESHIP (1 year)

For 12 months: €6,120

(The training is funded by the OPCOs and the CFA. The apprentice and the company therefore have no costs to cover.)

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (1 year)

Rate: €12.75 per hour

(Feasibility study of funding options based on status: self-funding, France Travail, career transition, etc. – to be discussed with the centre.)

Target audience

The training is open to anyone up to the age of 29 inclusive, who has:

with good physical stamina,
of manual expertise,
and a motivation to work closely with horses, particularly to provide foot care (trimming, shoeing, etc.) in order to maintain or improve their locomotion

Prerequisite

Hold at least a degree in Level 3 or a higher degree for CAP in 1 year
Mastery of basic skills (understanding and speaking French, reading, writing, and arithmetic)
Fitness to practice the profession (particularly regarding the back)

Number of participants

8 to 20 participants

Access conditions

Interview within 30 days of initial contact
One-to-one interview and placement test
Decision made within 20 days of the interview, following validation of the prerequisites

Assessment methods

The skills acquired during the training are grouped into Capitalisable Units (UCs):

Each unit of certification (UC) must be validated at the training centre during the year through specific assessments
A course unit may comprise several assessments
All course units must be passed to obtain the qualification
Validity: each UC is valid for 5 years, allowing recognition of the skills acquired over this period
