The training

Objectives
  • Developing one's career plan, with a view to achieving the most fulfilling and realistic career path possible
  • Gain professional skills during work placements (at least 6 weeks a year) in the foundation year
  • Experiencing inclusions in subjects related to nature and environmental professions and in general subjects according to their skills
  • Develop independence and responsibility in both personal and professional life
  • Find opportunities to build self-confidence through educational support
  • Take part in educational projects with the institution's young people
  • Pass a training course, obtain a qualification, find the right educational or career path

The curriculum is based on the Common Core of Knowledge and Skills, taking into account each young person’s prior learning and drawing on the curriculum for CAP courses or vocational sixth-form programmes. Even though everyone is at a different level, learning is organised around projects to encourage collaboration and cooperation.

The foundation year prepares them for the skills required for the CAP or BAC.

Timetables vary depending on the modules chosen and each student’s individual schedule. In the foundation year, students attend classes four days a week. For CAP or Baccalaureate courses, students attend classes five days a week. Students on the programme have the option of boarding at the school.

  • Working in conjunction with each pupil’s original school to facilitate their integration into the ULIS programme at sixth-form level
  • Projects involving classes from the school, such as nature projects, visits, drama and science...
  • Projects with other ULIS schemes in secondary schools
  • Projects with charities, depending on the year’s projects
  • Tutoring by pupils from the school
  • Our farms as places of learning: greenhouses, gardens, educational farms….
  • Working with teachers from the CAP and/or vocational sixth-form to monitor inclusive lessons and provide personalised support by adapting the lessons
  • Support for pupils in certain inclusive settings provided by an AESH attached to the ULIS scheme
  • Regular meetings with the family and the designated teacher to discuss the young person’s career plans and their future after ULIS

Further study

Students are offered a preliminary foundation year to confirm or choose their career path.

During the year, they are assessed and prepared for their chosen course.

After ULIS,

  • either the pupil continues their vocational and/or academic education
  • or he enrols on a work-based vocational training course
  • or they find a job (in the open labour market, in a sheltered environment or in an adapted workplace)

The arrangements for continuing education or career development are discussed by the Educational Support Team, taking into account each young person’s plans, needs and potential

A foundation year is a transitional or refresher year. It is intended for:

  • Pupils with disabilities
  • Young people who need to strengthen their academic and social skills
  • Pupils who are struggling with career guidance or who are not yet ready for vocational or skills-based training

Pre-enrolment takes place from the first term of the year preceding the start of the academic year at the ULIS sixth form, by appointment with the programme coordinator.

The information session may be accompanied by an invitation to a two-day taster programme between December and April. This taster programme offers a glimpse into how we operate, as well as the tools and resources we use. It is also an opportunity to try out the boarding facilities. This enables the teacher to assess the pupil’s skills and motivation.

The Institut de Genech Group has sole discretion over whether to confirm enrolment following this introductory period. Enrolment can only be confirmed once the MDPH has received the «ULIS lycée» notification.

  • Premises: Fire safety regulations for public buildings (ERP) – Premises accessible to people with reduced mobility
  • Possible academic guidance and adaptation, mentored by a disability officer
